Kanha National Park - Its Amazing Nature and Wildlife

Kanha National Park is one of the most beautiful places in India. This park has amazing flora and fauna species, which attract tourists from all over the World. This park is in Madhya Pradesh and is home to a lot of wild animals. This forest is filled with tall trees, green meadows, and flowering plants, which makes it a must-visit spot for nature lovers and photographers. Many people visit this park to spot a tiger in its natural habitat, but they end up falling in love with the natural vibes of this area.

The beauty of Kanha is not just about animals, but it also has a calm and fresh feel, which draws the attention of people. If you want to go on a peaceful trip and need some time alone from the busy city life, then a trip to this amazing Kanha National Park would be best for you. Let’s know what this park has to offer for tourists, nature lovers, wildlife enthusiasts, and photographers.

The Beauty of Kanha’s Landscape

When you enter Kanha, the first thing you notice is how open and green everything feels. Kanha has a mix of sal trees, bamboo, and open grasslands. The grassland area of the Kanha National Park looks like a natural green carpet that is spread between the thick forest area, which is filled with trees. Mostly, the animals are seen in grassland areas as they go there to graze or relax in the open surroundings.

The grassland area is also known as a Meadow. Some meadows of this area are even famous for animal spotting. They are the Kanha Meadow, Sonf, Bishanpura, and Sondar. Each one has its own charm, and deer, barasingha, etc, look cute grazing in these areas. Even when a tiger walks across this open ground, they looks amazing.

The forest area of this wild park is filled with sal trees. They look like some pillars that are holding a natural rooftop over them. In the monsoon, these trees turn richer and deeper in color. In winter, the forest area looks mysterious and magical - like you’re in a Jungle movie. And, in the summer season, the whole area turns dry. During the summer season, it becomes easier to spot animals inside Kanha as they cannot hide behind the grass or other flora.

The small rivers, waterholes, and ponds add beauty to the charm of Kanha. Near them, animals are easily spotted as they go there to drink water. These water areas seem peaceful, and after sitting for some time silently, you might be able to hear sounds like birds chirping, leaves moving in the wind, or monkeys calling from far away. It’s easier to listen to the Jungle sound near the water areas.

The Famous Barasingha

Kanha National Park is especially famous for sightings of Barasingha, which is also called the swamp deer. This beautiful animal with large antlers is found only in Kanha. Years ago, the barasingha population dropped drastically, and they were close to disappearing forever. But at that time, the forest department of Kanha aand conservationists worked together to save these species. And today, Kanha is the only spot where these deer species are seen. This park is even famous for sightings of Barasingha, and they have even become the symbol of Kanha.

Sighting of Barasingha in an open grassland area is a stunning experience. You can go for a Kanha safari and then spot these species doing their daily activities. They have gentle faces, long legs, and antlers that look almost royal. They usually move in groups, so you might get a chance to take a beautiful picture of them in a group. They stay alert for predators, and people like spotting them because swamp deer look grateful. You will feel like you’re seeing them in a painting, standing in the grassland of a forest.

Famous Wildlife of Kanha

Kanha is famous among people for the sightings of Barasingha and igers. And yes, Kanha is one of the best places in India for tiger sightings.. But, this park is filled with flora species, water resources, and a deep forest area, which provides a perfect habitat for other animal species too. There are many animals inside Kanha that call it home. Some of the most famous wildlife found in Kanha are:

Leopards

Leopards live in the same forest areas as tigers, but they are much shyer. They often stay in the hilly areas or climb trees. They are shy animals and do not come easily in front of humans. But if you’re lucky, you may spot one crossing the road or resting on a tree branch.

Spotted Deer

The spotted deer are everywhere inside the park. They mostly move inside the Jungle in groups and are easily spotted by the Kanha Safari goers. They look adorable from close and even from a distance. They have white spots on their skin, which look cute. If a predator is nearby, the spotted deer make loud warning calls. These calls alert every animal in the forest, so everyone (including the tourists) knows danger is close.

Sambar Deer

Sambar deer are bigger and darker than spotted deer, and they are mostly seen walking quietly near the waterholes or dense bushes of the park. They prefer staying alone or in small groups. Their alarm calls are deep and echoing, and it is considered one of the strongest warning sounds inside the forest of Kanha. Whenever a predator like a tiger or leopard is around, the sambar’s loud “dhonk” call alerts the entire jungle.

Wild Dogs (Dholes)

They are interesting species of animals and are different from street dogs or pets. They look a bit like street dogs but are completely different in behaviour and lifestyle. The dholes are an interesting sight for tourists because of their hunting style. They are always seen in groups, and they hunt together with a proper strategy and teamwork. When they hunt, the entire pack surrounds the prey and chases it with amazing speed. Their sighting is truly an amazing sight and offers a raw side of the forest.

Sloth Bears

The Kanha National Park is also home to the sloth bear. They are cute animals that have black fur, and they look fluffy. When people go for a Kanha Safari, they mostly see the sloth bears searching for termites or walking slowly across the road. Sloth bears are mostly peaceful and prefer staying alone. They usually come out in the cooler hours of the day from the deep forest area.
